Segeroth Ecopark
Ecological park on the former Segeroth-Friedhof cemetery
The land of the former Segeroth cemetery, which is situated behind the university, was converted into a park from 2005 to 2007. Moreover, the roughly 3,000 m² pond in the eastern part of the cemetery was rehabilitated into a watercourse as part of the "Neue Wege" project. This created the Segeroth Ecopark with a few isolated gravestones being retained. The northeast of the cemetery joins onto the largest Jewish cemetery in Essen.
